Pruning - coffee farming

Pruning of coffee plant is a necessity to allow harvesters to pick coffee easily while concentrating the plant’s energy in the healthier branches.

Coffee plants are pruned back after the end of each coffee harvesting season which ends in mid April every year and helps maintaining a fuller, bushy appearance and generally shape the plant.

Using clean, sharp pruning shears, cut the stem at a 45-degree angle, 6.4 mm above where the leaf attaches to the stem (axil), paying attention to the top growth. Remove any dead or dying limbs while leaving the largest branches. When pruning coffee plants, trees are kept down to an easy-to-harvest height. We also trim the surrounding trees to allow sunlight and easier to photosynthesis.
